Celebrating Arab American and South West Asian and North Africa Heritage Month at Our School

Throughout April, our students engaged in meaningful learning experiences to celebrate Arab American Heritage Month. This was a special opportunity to explore culture, history, and identity while building a deeper sense of community and belonging.

Students began by learning about the contributions of Arab Americans and the impact they have made across history. They then moved into hands on art experiences, where we partnered with Ms. Kay Tarapolsi a local artist to introduce students to Zellige, traditional Moroccan mosaic patterns. Students explored symmetry and design while creating their own tiles. 

This week during our monthly assembly we focused on Arabic music and dance, led by our students. It was an engaging and joyful celebration of different cultural expressions through performance.

One of the highlights of the month was our fashion show, where students had the opportunity to wear traditional clothing or attire that represents their heritage. This created a powerful moment of pride, allowing students to celebrate who they are and appreciate the diversity within our school community.

We are grateful for this opportunity to learn, celebrate, and honor the rich history and culture of Arab Americans together.

We are excited to share that next year we will be adding an additional preschool class that offers Arabic. This class will be open to any student who would like to learn Arabic as a second language, as well as students who are native Arabic speakers. After completing the registration, please email the principal Obaidy@bsd405.org to indicate that you would like your child to join the Arabic class.
