Ardmore Community Newsletter: April 2026

 

Dear Families,

We wish you a wonderful spring break. If you are celebrating Easter, we wish you a joyful holiday as well. We hope you enjoy this time relaxing and spending meaningful moments with your family.

It is hard to believe we are entering the final stretch of the school year. This is one of our favorite times, as we celebrate each child’s growth and accomplishments. It is also a busy season filled with many events and celebrations. Please be sure to save the upcoming dates, including important events such as kindergarten, preschool, and 5th grade graduations.

At school, we have also been focusing on the Global Goals for Sustainability, helping students connect their learning to real-world challenges. Each grade level has been exploring one of these goals, and we will continue highlighting this work in our newsletters.

Celebrating Arab American Heritage Month 

We are excited to share that we have begun celebrating Arab American Heritage Month at school. Throughout the month, students are engaging in meaningful learning experiences through broadcasts, assemblies, and schoolwide activities.

Each week, we are exploring a different aspect of Arab American culture:

April 1–2: People

Students have been learning about the impact of Arab Americans and their contributions across history. They are exploring significant individuals and historical figures who have driven positive change and continue to enrich our communities.

April 13–17: Art

Students will participate in hands-on Arabic arts workshops, learning about artistic traditions and creative expression.

April 20–24: Dance and Music

Students will take part in a school assembly featuring Arabic music and performance, creating an engaging and interactive cultural experience.

April 27–30: Stories and Language

Students will explore Arabic stories and language through reading activities and a schoolwide language challenge.

We are excited to continue celebrating, learning, and honoring the rich history and culture of Arab Americans together.

 

 

 

Spotlight on Instruction 

Students in kindergarten are focusing on Global Goal 14, Life Below Water. They have been learning about how to protect ecosystems and how pollution can harm marine animals.

As part of their learning, students will be creating projects using recyclable materials. They are also leading a campaign to collect recyclable items to help reduce pollution and protect marine life.

Students will have the opportunity to showcase their projects during the STEAM Fair, and we welcome your participation.

Student Safety 

Washington state law and Bellevue School District policy require all schools to hold at least one drill per calendar month while school is in session. This month, we will be conducting a fire drill and practicing evacuating the building and accounting for everyone.

During a fire evacuation, students are taught to quickly and quietly exit the building. They meet on the field at an assigned location and stay silent while attendance is taken to ensure all people have safely evacuated.

 

Please talk with your student about preparing for emergencies and disasters such as fires. Encourage them to talk about their concerns and express their feelings. Emphasize that even though sometimes things happen that we may not expect, there are lots of things we can do to help us stay safe.

Adding Arabic in Preschool 26-27

We are excited to share that next year we will be adding an additional preschool class that offers Arabic.

This class will be open to any student who would like to learn Arabic as a second language, as well as students who are native Arabic speakers. After completing the registration, please email the principal Obaidy@bsd405.org to indicate that you would like your child to join the Arabic class
