Ardmore Community Newsletter: May 2026

Dear Families,

We hope to see you this evening during our STEAM Family Night l. We are excited to see students different projects. Our book fair will also be launching then!

With the end of the school year approaching, we have many exciting events coming up. We are looking forward to celebrating our students’ growth and all the learning they have accomplished this year. At the same time, we continue to support them both emotionally and academically as they prepare for their transition to the next grade level.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Students will be leading a spirit week to show their appreciation. Here are the daily themes. Thank you to PTSA for organizing the spirit week and for providing special treats throughout the week.

Celebrating AANHPI and Jewish Heritage Month 

As we move through this month, we are celebrating and honoring Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish Heritage Month. We will be hosting our monthly assembly where students will learn about the contributions and impact of individuals from these communities. 

 

Spotlight on Instruction 

Students in fourth grade are focusing on Global Goal 10 through a literacy unit on Sports and Society. They have been learning about different types of sports and have created posters highlighting individuals who have broken barriers in sports, as well as the diversity of identities and abilities within athletics.

This display will continue to grow as the unit progresses. At the end of the unit, students will either write a piece or create a presentation to advocate for equal opportunities and greater representation in sports.

Student Safety 

Washington state law and Bellevue School District policy require all schools to hold at least one drill per calendar month while school is in session. This month, we will be conducting a lockdown drill and practicing actions to help keep us safe in the event of a threat or intruder.

Please note that a lockdown is considered a preventative measure and is not the same as an Active Threat.

During a lockdown drill, students learn about the importance of listening to school staff and following instructions quickly and quietly.

Lockdown is initiated when there is a threat to the campus or school. All threats are taken seriously. In the interest of student safety, lockdown may be initiated while the nature of the threat is evaluated. Staff are trained to lock classroom doors, shut off the lights, close the blinds, and to continually assess the situation.

Please talk with your student about preparing for emergencies and disasters. Encourage them to talk about their concerns and express their feelings. Emphasize that even though sometimes things happen that we may not expect, there are lots of things we can do to help us stay safe.

Afterschool child care preschool-5th grade available 26-27

26-27 Childcare: Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue to be Offered at All BSD Elementary Schools 

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue and the Bellevue School District are pleased to announce an expanded partnership that will begin in the 2026–2027 school year. Starting this fall, Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue will become the sole provider of before and after‑school care for preschool and school‑age students at every BSD elementary school. 

 

Walk, Roll or bike to school day

Eagles! Spring is here! The sun is out, the weather is warmer, and it’s the perfect time to walk, bike, roll, bus, or carpool to school! Spring School Pool is May 4-8. We encourage you to step outside or join some friends in traveling to and from school with lower carbon emissions options. Flyers were sent home with more details.

 

SPECIAL EVENT, Wednesday the 6th! Join Artie the Eagle and the School Pool Bee at Ardmore park at 7:30 am. We will travel to school as a flock of eagles! Join in the fun!
