Ardmore Community Newsletter: April 2025
Dear Ardmore Families,
Happy Easter!
Today we celebrated with a fun Easter Egg Hunt activity during recess time. At Ardmore we value the recognition, education and celebration of our students' cultural identities. We want to foster in our students a global perspective that helps them make deep and meaningful connections with people from all over the world. Please ask your students to tell you about our celebrations and ask what questions they have. Thank you for your partnership!
Have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Tina Bogucharova-Principal
Yusra Obaid-Assistant Principal

Spotlight on Instruction: Cinderella
In 3rd grade, students have been learning about traditional stories as part of our new American Reading Company Literacy curriculum. Throughout the unit they have learned about the different version of Cinderella. As a culminating project for the unit, they wrote their own version of the story, incorporating everything they learned about the different versions of Cinderella from around the world. Their writing included key story elements and components of a complete narrative.
Spotlight on Bilingual Education: Celebrating Eid
Last month, we held a schoolwide event where students learned basic Arabic words for the ingredients used to make a traditional sweet called Maamoul. This sweet is often exchanged in Arabic-speaking countries during holidays such as Eid, Easter, and other cultural celebrations. All of the students had a wonderful time making their own Maamoul using playdough, learning new vocabulary, and making connections to the sweets they enjoy during holidays at home.

School Safety: Fire Drill
Washington state law and Bellevue School District policy require all schools to hold at least one drill per calendar month while school is in session. This month, we will be conducting a fire drill and practicing evacuating the building and accounting for everyone.
During a fire evacuation, students are taught to quickly and quietly exit the building. They meet on the field at an assigned location and stay silent while attendance is taken to ensure all people have safely evacuated.
Please talk with your student about preparing for emergencies and disasters such as fires. Encourage them to talk about their concerns and express their feelings. Emphasize that even though sometimes things happen that we may not expect, there are lots of things we can do to help us stay safe.
For more information on fire safety, you might want to visit the National Fire Protection Association "Kids" page at http://www.sparky.org/ or their parent resource page at http://www.sparky.org/parents.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
